While You’re Here
Hampton sits in the heart of Kings County, nestled where the Kennebecasis River shapes the land and the way of life. It's river country and forest country — and that's exactly what makes it special.
History Worth Digging Into
Hampton has deep roots. Settled by United Empire Loyalists in 1783, it's also the birthplace of John Peters Humphrey — one of the principal drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Kings County Museum in town tells that story well, with local history exhibits, genealogy research resources, and a visit to the original Kings County Gaol that's genuinely worth your time. Hampton also sits within the Stonehammer UNESCO Global Geopark — a 2,500 km region of southern New Brunswick with a geological history stretching back one billion years.
Wildlife & Trails
Hampton Marsh is one of the most ecologically rich stretches of the Kennebecasis flood plain — a haven for migrating and breeding waterfowl, marsh birds, and birds of prey, with over 50 species documented in the surrounding wetlands. The Dutch Point Park Trail System and Trans Canada Trail wind through the area, with lookout points and interpretation stops along the way.
On the Water
Explore the Kennebecasis River from a rented kayak or canoe, or take in the scenery from the water at the Lighthouse River Centre, complete with a picnic area, wharf, and boat launch. Osprey Adventures offers kayak and canoe rentals right on the river, and Zelda's Kennebecasis River Adventures runs guided pontoon tours through the marsh — a relaxed, all-ages experience where you might spot a bald eagle, a great blue heron, or a curious beaver drifting alongside the boat.
In Town
There is lots to do in Hampton. Free Thursday night movies at the Hampton Community Centre, a Friday evening outdoor market, Sunday evening concerts in the Town Square, good local restaurants, and a community pool — all just minutes from your site. And right next door, the Hampton Brewing Company taproom is one of the best reasons to end your day exactly where you started it.
Good to Know
All visitors must check in at the Front Office upon arrival. Campground access is limited — we recommend reaching out early if you have a specific site in mind. Campers are responsible for the conduct of their own guests and visitors.
